*Mama + Little Tropic
Tropic is committed to ethical practice. They are certified cruelty free and vegan by PeTA and Cruelty Free International. This means that the company and their ingredient suppliers do not conduct, commission, or pay for any tests on animals for ingredients, formulations, or finished products and do not contain any animal ingredients.
They are certified by the Good Shopping Guided as an Ethical Company. This certification means that The Good Shopping Guide has independently audited the company on its commitment to The Environment; Animal Welfare and Human Rights.
Their liquid foundation range consists of 11 colours. They have changed the names to reflect a number within a range, rather than using descriptive names such as ‘Porcelain’ or ‘Espresso’. Their mineral foundation (8) and concealer ranges (6) could be extended, and these still carry descriptor names that some people may be against.
Their marketing and ambassadors are inclusive of both age and race.
Packaging, Practices + Policies
Tropic has implemented several substantial environmental initiatives as part of its wider sustainability strategy.
They are certified by CarbonNeutral® company and have been double offsetting since 2017. This means that they remove twice the amount of greenhouse gases that they emit through offsetting schemes – as well as having a green HQ that runs on 100% renewable resources.
In 2020, they recycled 122 tonnes which equated to 65% of all their waste. Anything that can’t be recycled is repurposed into an alternative fuel (that replaces fossil fuels) to power homes and businesses. All the energy used to recycle and turn their waste into alternative fuel is, like all aspects of their operations, double carbon offset.
They have an empties return scheme for hard to recycle items, with a free product offered when 5 empties are returned. Alongside their refillable makeup system, they offer refills for all serums and oils – this diverted 300kg of plastic waste from being generated in 2020.
They verify their values through Provenance® – providing evidence of their commitment through transparency.
*The Supply Chain is audited by 3-rd party certification.
