Couleur Caramels makeup formulas are filled with certified organic active ingredients recognised for their skin benefits. Their ECOCERT and CosméBio certifications ensure no parabens, phenoxyethanol, nanoparticles, silicone, polyethylene glycol (PEG), fragrances and synthetic dyes are used in their certified products* as part of their commitment towards the exclusion of potential CMT ingredients (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic or toxic to Reproduction).
Their nail polishes are free from rosin, toluene, and formaldehyde.
*Not all of their products are ECOCERT certified, please see Ethics section for further details. However, each product on their website stipulates all ingredients and certifications.
The ECOCERT, Qualité France and Bureau Veritas provide assurances for the ethical treatment of animals and people throughout the brand’s supply chain. Many – but not all – of the products are vegan. All of their the products are cruelty-free, however, the brand as opted against additional certifications in these categories as their existing certifications cover the cruelty-free assurances.
For those looking for vegan products, please be aware that some of their products do contain Carmine, ethically sourced beeswax and some of their brushes contain animal hair. These products are clearly highlighted on their website.
Couleur Caramel does sell in China, but exclusively through a distribution model based in Hong Kong – meaning that the products are therefore not required to be tested on animals.
Their current complexion line which includes concealers (3), correctors (6) liquid and powder foundations is very limited does not yet include a sufficient range for darker skin tones or disability-friendly packaging.
Through their parent company’s (Nature Cos) 5% To Change the World Programme, Couleur Caramel work with partner organisations such as Care and Handicap International and that have a positive social impact.
Packaging, Practices + Policies
Again, their above-mentioned certifications provide assurances to their environmental commitment throughout their supply chain. They have made clear commitments to sustainability on their website and have aligned sustainable development as a measure of success for the company.
Through NatureCos’s 5% To Change the World Programme, 5 per cent of net profits are distributed to humanitarian and environmental organisations, including The Good Planet Foundation, WWF, Sea Shepherd and Terre d’Abeilles.
Couleur Caramel has recently updated their branding and packaging which now features FSC® maple wood and white PLA, a 100% biodegradable bioplastic. They also provide refills for most of their products.
